Who Has Quit Smoking

I have quit smoking! I'm so excited! Well if you would have asked me Saturday I wouldn't have been excited. I would have been a big grump. But now that a few days have passed and the cravings aren't as intense I'm feeling very happy about my non smoking self. It's nice to know that I'm not a slave to it anymore.

So have you quit smoking and if so what tips do you have to keep me motivated?

Your title caught my eye as I hit "next random blog". I quit too. After 25 years, 1 pack a day, I quit Nov. 15 and I am THRILLED! Frankly, I coughed like I had lung cancer, I couldn't laugh without coughing and I have two little girls who need their momma to live (without dragging an oxygen tank around)

Pat yourself on the back, you did an awesome thing.

I quit smoking on March 10, 1986. At that point, I had been smoking for 10 years and was up to 2 1/2 packs per day.

March 10 was the day that my wife and I found out that she was pregnant with our first child. I finished off my pack that night at work and that was that. Quit cold turkey.

Sorry that I don't have any tips for you. I was able to do it because I knew I could no longer afford it and it wouldn't be healthy for my wife to be around the smoke.

So...for me, it was an easy thing to do because I had something kicking me in the ass.

Congradulations!!
I smoked for many, many years(about 8) and never thought that I could quit, but I finally had enough and quit! I haven't had a smoke in almost two years. It is such a good feeling to know that you accomplished something that will make you healthier.
Keep up the good work, it only gets easier!

Way to go! Just take it one day at a time. I quit in 1998 after 10 years - most of those years it was a pack a day. What helped me to quit was someone holding me accountable - for me, it was my husband. Second, I stayed away from "smoking situations" for awhile, i.e. bars, smokey coffeshops, people that smoked. Now I can be around it and I'm fine, but it took awhile. Third, take up a healthy habit like walking, gardening, something to distract you. Fourth, if you happen to slip, don't throw in the towel. Start afresh the next day. A final idea that worked for a friend of mine - each time she craved a cigarette, she ate a slice of fat-free cheese. It gave her something to satisfy her and kept her away from the smoking. Good luck! You've just added years and better quality living to your life.

I quit smoking after several attempts, and came to the conclusion that you have to rely on your willpower to kick the habit.
