Do You Donate To The Fraternal Order of Police

I do donate to the Fraternal Order of Police. My mom used to donate and now I do. It's just something that I've always done. In the past I could always anticipate their call for donations and then I would get the little sticker to put in my window. Now if you donate you can Get your FOP Gold Supporter Shield! It's better than a sticker. And now it's even easier to make donations than ever before. You can simply go to www.fopdonate.com and make your donation online. It makes it very easy for you to do a good thing!

So do you donate to The Fraternal Order of Police?

Hello everyone I'm just stopping by to say I love what you all are during. There seems to be a problem with all I was suppose to get when I got the gold sheid. I didn't get any decals and all the minor stuff that goes with it. I s it anyway I may be able to obtain these?

Anonymous said...

I have been donating for several years, but this is the second year in a row that I have received a decal that is to be installed on the outside of the windsheild. The one I put on last year lasted 4 days, until I was driving in the rain and it simply "flew off" the windshield. I just received my 2008 decal and it is the same. When I recieve the correct one, I will send in my pledge.

I was shocked to learn that "(only) a minimum of 15% of gross collections go to the FOP". I am having my name removed from the donoe list after many years.

I just received my pledge, I quoted it as 15 dollars as I do every year, you have it at 25 dollars. As of now I will no longer pledge any money and will not send the 25 dollars.

Anonymous said...

You wouldn't need a donation drive, if you didn't waste all the mail and postage on so many reminders!!!
I should not have pledged anything.
You are also wasting money on professional fundraisers. What's the point?

Hi
I just wanted to let all the officers to know that you guys are doing a wonderful job.
Keep up the wonderful work.

well, i pledged and then i went on line to give them the money but guess what? They do not have a package for my state! Arizona--i have a few police officers who told me to be very careful with these types of donations--sorry folks, i won't be sending money to you after all--i will, however go to the station and pay for money to go into the 100club which is a true club that helps officers families when the officer is hurt or killed in the line of duty.

Shame on you! I've gotton mail every year asking for donations. I know you're a scam because I've done my research. You write: "Thank you for being a past supporter..." must be a form letter. Also you write that I request not to be contacted by phone. Please tell me how you get your information. Form letter, indeed

Anonymous said...

The "Post" has had negative articles about the amount of giving that actually goes to help the police. Is it true that you only give 15% of the monies collected to the intended receipients?

Remove my name from your calling list. Nor do I want any mailings from you.

Wow, I am shocked and surprise of what I have read, heard and found out about this organization. I have donated for years to help out the officers that watch over us. I am an Army Soldier and believe in helping out our brothers and sisters who protect the people of this country. Please remove me from your phone and mail listings. I will not pledge anymore nor will I pay the pledge I promised. Silvia Herrera, Texas.

Greetings. I have read all of the blogs and I want to say that I can not agree with you more. BEWARE of the FOP. Also, beware of ANY solication over the phone - NEVER give your hard earned $$ to someone that you did NOT call yourself. You do NOT know who is on the other end if you did not place the call yourself. There are other methods for donating (i.e. the web!) Also, READ their MISSION statement. Do you really know what they believe and where your $$ is going. To the person who looked up this "organization" on the BBB. Kudos to you! You did your homework. And to the poster regarding the MASS mailing - I couldn't agree with you more! There ARE valid orgainzaions that do support the police officers. Contact your PD to get those organizations - and approach them yourself!! Blessing to all of you for wanting to be supportive of your Police force in your community!

I have donated to the fire fighters and to the FOP for a few years now, and my husband has alerted me that only $3.75 of my $25 donation (15%) actually goes to the families of the FOP. I do not wish to donate this year and I would appreciate our names being taken off the calling list. We will make a personal donation to our C.O.P.S office locally rather than send in a payment to you.

My wife has been donating to you ( FOP ) for several years, but this year my wife and I can not donate to the ( FOP ) because of medical reason and living on a fixed income. The individual that my wife spoke with said, can you donate a small donation of $5.00, my wife asked the individual not to embarrass her, and hung up the phone. Now two weeks later she gets a letter from ( TEXAS STATE LODGE FOP DONOR PROCESSING CENTER ) Please REMOVE her address and phone number from your list. Will send you back your letter after I make a copy of it.

Too bad its not actual officers calling you...they are hired telemarkers, thats right...thats why they are so rude and hang up on you if you ask to be removed ..they have been harassing us for a year...we made one donation..and now that we are not financially able to help, they are rude and hang up and still call us several times a day, I have contacted the president chuck cantebury FOPCHUCK@AOL.COM with my complaint, now I have to change my pnone number I have had for over 20 years to stop these harassing calls..Some great job the telemarketers are doing, I am not the only one either, just google and there are plenty more...also read in a newspaper that only 2 percent go into the actual organization.? Good cause but , question their tactics!!!

Anonymous said...

P. Clay says... Well, I have my pledge envelope and check ready right here on my desk. BUT after reading many of the folks comments I will be ripping up that check. Then make out a new one for $100. I will be walking that one into our local Police Station here in town. That way I know 100% will really go to help!

Anonymous said...

I will not be sending my pledge. I donated to the local police department instead. there have been to many negative reports about your organization. A good reputation is very important.

Anonymous said...

How can an origination as this be legitimate? I just received a call from them and I asked “What would it take for them to stop and never call again?” The caller actually told me that a donation would help. Then I said that sound like a bribe. Then he said no its not. Then I said quote “giving you money to get you to stop calling me is a Bribe, extortion, blackmail”. One giving them money would not get them to stop calling it would just make them call more. Two if I didn’t this to a policeman I would certainly be sitting in jail.

I donate every year to FOP and last year went on line and donated the gold and did not receive jack shit .This year when they called me for another donation I told them what happend. They hung up on me. So I WILL NOT DONATE AGAIN UNTILL I GET WHAT I PAID FOR!

Anonymous said...

hi, I would like you to take me off your mailing and phone list. Jaime Lopez Hanford CA.

The FOP telemarketers try to represent themselves as cops without actually saying they are one. They try to come off as intimidating and or guilting you in to paying their salaries. Hardly any of the money you give them actually goes to real police. And now other companies are starting to learn from their example. I get the exact same calls (maybe it's the same company?) claiming to be state troopers association! There should be a class action lawsuit against these people! The sad thing is that if they didn't block their number and try to address me by my first name and showed me a little respect I might be inclined to donate without researching them further. Thankfully they are rude and make me wonder what the heck so I save my money.

The phone solicitations seem to be a scam.

If you do want to donate, contact your local police department for information.

I wrote to the Amherst Police department about this because I've heard so much about it being a scam. Here's what they said. Apparently, it's a real organization, but not a legitimate cause:

--
From the A.P.D.':
Thank you for your email. NO, the Amherst Police Department is not
involved with this charity, and does not benefit from this charity. We
have never solicited moneies for our department.
While this organization is a "legitimate" charity, essentially none of
the money it raises go to any police organization. It is all pocketed
for "administrative costs." Keep your hard earned money. Thank you,

-----Original Message-----

Hi,

The Fraternal Order of Police keeps calling our house in search of
donations. Can you tell me if the town of Amherst's Police
Department benefits from this charity? I've been hearing a lot about
Fraternal Order of Police telephone-collection scams.

Thanks.

I donate every year, this is a worthy cause. I have a silver shield, I have not seen the gold ones. What do you need to do to get one of those? Helping the police is helping the community you live in.

As most people know, these types of fundraising activities are scams. Does anyone have any tips of how to get off the list? I am on the Do Not Call Registry but continue to receive these aggressive and harassing calls. Is there a place to report misconduct?

It blows my mind that the Police of all groups would choose to be associated with tactics that aren't following legal requirements. Shameful!
